Helping Families Navigate Divorce on Hawaii’s Big Island

About Judy S. Howard

Family Law Attorney & Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert

I have practiced law for over 40 years, most recently focusing on property division, marital agreements, and mediation. I am also a licensed real estate broker and Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE), although I would not serve in those capacities when representing a client in a divorce. However, the knowledge and experience I have gained in those capacities can certainly assist clients in obtaining the highest possible net should the sale of real estate be required.

Mediation First

I believe most divorcing couples cause themselves less damage by resolving their differences through mediation rather than litigation. I encourage this approach whenever possible.

Protecting Your Assets

Hawaii has unique marital property laws that surprise many couples, especially those relocating from the mainland. Understanding these laws early can make an enormous difference.

My Practice Areas

I focus on a defined set of family law matters where I can provide the most effective representation.

Property Division

Hawaii has unique marital property laws. I help clients understand their rights and reach fair divisions of assets, including real estate, businesses, and retirement accounts.

Marital Agreements

Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are among the most effective tools for protecting assets. I particularly encourage them for anyone relocating to Hawaii.

Mediation

I believe mediation causes less damage than litigation in most divorce cases. I serve as an advocate for clients choosing this path.

Divorce Real Estate

As a licensed broker and Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE), I handle the sale of real property in divorce — a role I keep strictly separate from legal representation to avoid conflicts.

How It Works

I keep the process straightforward and respectful of your time.
